Description/Mission statement:
La Casa de la Raza, the Cesar Chavez Center was founded in 1971 to provide a non-profit community center on the Eastside of Santa Barbara.

The mission of La Casa de la Raza is to develop and empower the Latino community by affirming and preserving the Latino cultural heritage, providing an umbrella for services and by advocating for participation in the larger community.
Since its inception,the purpose of La Casa has been:

To provide a meeting facility for social, educational, cultural and other activities that serve to enable people to help themselves.

To provide a pool of resource persons who have expertise in numerous areas and who are able to give technical assistance to persons and organizations seeking to improve the quality of life for Santa Barbara's socially and economically disadvantaged citizens.

To encourage individuals of the community to become well informed about issues affecting them and to actively participate in social and civic activities.

To provide social services attuned to the particular needs of the community the organization was founded to serve.

Family Resource Center

Our staff advocates, empowers, informs and links our community to the appropriate government and social services. We provide the services in the following areas:
-Community resources and referrals
-Health referrals
-Case Management
-Tenant Rights
-Workers Rights
-Community Service Site
-Housing Information
-Consumer Protection Services - assist
with consumer issues
-Assistance in translating legal documents and letter writing

Adult Services offers Self-help and Improvement Programs

We provide opportunities for individual achievements through the following areas.

-ESL classes (English as a second language)
-Computer Skills (Work advancement training)
-Tax preparation (A community service)
