Department of Asian American Studies Annual Photo Contest

TERMS:
The Department of Asian American Studies Annual Photo Contest begins February 1, 2017, and
ends March 10, 2017, at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST). By submitting an entry, each
contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that he or she is currently a UCSB student.

WHAT TO ENTER:
The following three categories are acceptable:
1. EAP/Travel: Local cities and landmarks, people or activities in the United States and abroad
that convey culture and/or traditions
2. The Asian American Experience: Events, objects or activities connecting the Asian American
people to their history or their cultural heritage; photographs that tell us what it means to
be an Asian American and provide a sense of what it is like to live in this country.
3. College Experience: Photographs of people, places, and objects that show what it means to
be students of UCSB

The following forms of photographs are acceptable:
1. Self-portraits, portraits including but not limited to photos of groups or individuals
2. Manipulated/altered photos for artistic purposes by applying digital and/or traditional
special effects (i.e., cropping, collage, filtering, etc.)
3. Photographs taken with a mobile device (phone or tablet); Polaroid not accepted

For each photo, include a photo caption describing the photo’s content and story behind the photo.
Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's rights, including but not limited to copyright,
are not eligible. Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable
or inappropriate content, as determined by the Department of Asian American Studies in its sole
discretion, are ineligible for this contest.

Please submit photographs and requested information through email at
redilynm@asamst.ucsb.edu. You may submit no more than three (3) photographs. To be displayed
in our online gallery, photographs must be submitted in .jpeg, .jpg or .png format and each no
larger than 8 MB.

By entering the contest, you grant the
Department of Asian American Studies (and those authorized by Asian American Studies) to use your photographs for the purpose of advertising, Department publication, promotion, and website.

JUDGING:
Photo entries will be judged based on creativity, quality, originality, responsiveness to the prompt
and overall impact.
Judging will be conducted by selected faculty and/or personnel of the Department of Asian
American Studies. Winning photographs will be announced on www.asamst.ucsb.edu.
The Department of Asian American Studies will notify the winner via the contact information
provided at the time of entry; the Department of Asian American Studies may disqualify anyone
who fails to respond to the notification within ten business days.
