Hey everyone, I’m Navpreet. I am a fourth year majoring in Asian American Studies and Environmental Studies while pursuing a certificate in the Technology Management Program. During my time at UCSB, I was extensively involved in our student government through Associated Students and residential life. Since I have an interest in social entrepreneurship and community organizing, I interned at local community organizations and start-ups. While I am still exploring my career options, I want to work to help underserved communities and provide more resources for those who need it. In my free time, I highly enjoy watching anime, spending time with family, exploring local cultural sites, and taking strolls in the wonderful outdoors.
As an Asian American American Studies major, I found my niche on campus in the department through our wonderful students, faculty, and staff. Everyone is welcoming inside and outside the classroom. The intellectually engaging content of the Asian American courses have carried over to various aspects of my life. I have gained critical thinking skills which I utilize on a daily basis. The conversation never ends in the classroom for any student taking an Asian American studies course. Students grapple and develop new perspectives within courses ranging from arts, public policy, history, writing, and much more. Many Asian American majors and minors including myself have come from our courses but these courses would benefit any student.
You are always welcome to come into my office hours to talk about anything from getting involved on campus, navigating academic challenges, or deciding to major or minor in Asian American Studies.
