Why is building a wall on our southern border a waste of tax dollars? We discuss broad trends in communication and transportation infrastructure over the last fifty years to understand why physical obstacles may perform only symbolic, political needs in this age of migration.

John Park is a Professor for Asian American Studies, and specializes in American legal history, American immigration law, and comparative ethnic studies. He has published four books and two edited volumes on these topics.
